Hollister High School, in partnership with FIRST Robotics, is set to host the Pinnacles Regional Robotics Competition for the first time on March 1st and 2nd, 2025. The event, which will take place on the high school campus, is expected to bring together 36 high school teams from California, Nevada, and the Netherlands, drawing over 1,200 students, coaches, and mentors to showcase cutting-edge robotics innovation.

This competition marks a historic milestone for Hollister High School and its Deep Space Robotics Team 6884, which launched eight years ago and has since made a name for itself in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) field. The event will feature student-designed and programmed robots competing in high-energy, real-world engineering challenges that test problem-solving, collaboration, and technical expertise.

A Milestone for Hollister High School

Hosting the Pinnacles Regional Robotics Competition places Hollister High School on the global stage, further solidifying its commitment to STEAM education and workforce readiness. The event will provide a platform for students to demonstrate their creativity, engineering skills, and teamwork while competing against some of the brightest young minds in robotics.

San Benito High School District Superintendent Shawn Tennenbaum expressed pride in hosting the regional competition:

“We are thrilled to welcome teams from across California, Nevada, and even the Netherlands to Hollister for this landmark event. The Pinnacles Regional Robotics Competition showcases the incredible talent and dedication of students in STEAM education, reinforcing the importance of hands-on learning and innovation. This event is a reflection of our commitment to equipping students with the skills and experiences they need to succeed in the ever-evolving world of technology. We can’t wait to witness the creativity, teamwork, and passion these young innovators bring to the competition.”

A Boost to Hollister’s Economy

Beyond being a groundbreaking educational event, the competition is expected to provide a significant economic boost to Hollister’s hospitality and business sectors. With over 1,500 visitors expected over the weekend, local hotels, restaurants, and businesses will experience increased foot traffic.

Business owners in hospitality, dining, and retail are encouraged to prepare for an influx of visitors, ensuring teams and their families have a welcoming and accommodating experience.

Guillermo Diaz Jr., CEO of AI company Conectado Inc. and a sponsor of Hollister High School’s Deep Space Robotics Team, emphasized the broader impact of the event:

“This event is not just about robotics—it’s about bringing the community together. When students engage in STEAM competitions like this, they aren’t just building robots—they’re building confidence, critical thinking skills, and the foundation for future careers. We invite the entire community—adults, parents, kids of all ages, educators, and local leaders—to witness firsthand the talent and innovation coming out of Hollister.”
