The Hollister City Council will hear the results of an investigation into Councilmember Rolan Resendiz’s alleged misconduct June 18 at 4 p.m.

Although the results of the investigation were unavailable by publication time, the council has censured Resendiz twice in the past, given him a written reprimand and stripped him of his committee duties following numerous instances in which he made allegations about other council members that were proven false.

“It’s problematic at this point,” said Mayor Mia Casey, who has been the subject of accusations by Resendiz. “We’ve been given some legal counsel about this,”

BenitoLink attempted to contact Resendiz before the meeting but could not reach him.

Casey told BenitoLink the council will meet behind closed doors to discuss the investigation results before it goes before the public. She declined to disclose any information beyond that.

Asked if she’ll recommend action after the report, she said she wasn’t sure.

Resendiz is not the first council member to violate the city’s code of conduct.

In 2023, Councilmember Rick Perez was issued a verbal warning after an independent investigation found that he yelled at and used profanity toward San Benito County Supervisor Kollin Kosmicki. Perez also yelled at Resendiz and former mayor and current supervisor-elect Ignacio Velazquez.

Following repeated claims by Resendiz that Casey and Councilmember Dolores Morales received funding from developers, BenitoLink in May 2023 reviewed all of their campaign contributions. The review found that members of the Anderson family, of Anderson Homes and the Lee family, of the proposed Lands of Lee subdivision, donated to Casey’s campaigns, and that she returned the contributions.

BenitoLink attempted to contact Morales before the meeting but could not reach her.

On Jan. 16, 2024, the council agreed to alter its code of conduct policy to set harsher penalties for council members who violate the code.

If a member is found violating the code of conduct, they may lose travel funds and discretionary funds and lose the ability to be appointed mayor pro tempore or vice mayor. They may also face financial consequences.

Within a 12-month period beginning from the date of the first offense, an offending council member would be fined $100 for the first infraction; $200 for the second; $500 for the third and $500 for any additional infractions.
