The San Benito County Arts Showcase, an art and performance exhibition, took place on April 10 at the Veterans Memorial Building in Hollister. Tony Balbas of the San Benito County Office of Education said the show presented more than 3,700 pieces of visual art, along with three short films, 13 live performances and a couple of looped digital art pieces.
“We have students from across San Benito County, TK through 12th grade,” Balbars said. “There are home, private and public school students from the Hollister, Spring Grove, San Benito High and San Andreas School Districts. Every school has had access to the exhibition.”
Balbars said this is the second year he has been involved in the project and the amount of artist participation has been great.
“We had the Flying Colors Dance Group, along with the San Benito County Dance Academy, the San Benito Stage Company, Hollister School District Elementary Band, the Rancho Maze Band, Ballet Folklorico, West Coast Martial Arts, Aztec dancing, and a ukulele performance,” he said. “Yamamoto Hula Ohana had a song and dance performance, and student poets Adi Danturi and Kennel Hauser recited poems.”

The Women’s Club of Hollister awarded some prizes.
“We divided into three groups to judge all the wonderful pieces that are out here,” said Women’s Club member Lisa Delpino. “We have been commissioned to pick the very best of the best.”
Delpino said those who took first place recieved a sticker, “just telling them how great they were to have their pieces here.” Second and third place entries were also recognized, and there was a best in show award.
Amanda Chiado, Director of Art Education at San Benito County Arts Council, said this is the seventh year her organization has partnered with the County Office of Education for this event.
“We are just happy for all the partners we have,” she said. “Including the Women’s Club of Hollister, San Benito Arts Council, all the wonderful art teachers, music teachers and all the students and families.”
