On March 9 at 6:49 p.m. Hollister Animal Control officers discovered two rabbits in a cage left in front of the Hollister Animal Shelter entrance.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the rabbits had been abandoned for approximately eleven hours with no access to shelter, food, or water.

Animal Control officers reviewed security footage of the incident. The footage showed two individuals parking several feet away from the shelter and placing the rabbits by the front door. The individuals then ran away once they dropped off the rabbits. Based on the video, Animal Control believes the two individuals initially dumped the rabbits. One of the rabbits appeared to have an eye injury at the time of the incident and was transported to a local veterinarian for treatment.

Hollister Police Animal Care and Services are seeking assistance in identifying these two people of interest.

The Hollister Animal Shelter would like to remind the public that it is unlawful to abandon animals in front of the shelter as it violates PC 597s(a). If you would like to surrender an animal, you can do so during business hours, within your corresponding County’s Animal Care facility.

If you have information regarding this case, please contact Animal Control Officer Harvey at (831) 636-4320.
