Over 40 teams from six divisions attended the Opening Ceremony of the Hollister Little League at Veterans Memorial Park on Feb. 28.
“We have over 540 players here in Hollister,” said Eric Gauar, president of the Miami team. “I always look forward to the fresh cut grass and kids’ faces when they come out.”.
Gauar has been a coach for six years, and this is his first year as team president and his second year on the Little League board of directors.

Jason Mendes, who coaches the Yankees team his son plays on, said, “I’m looking for these kids to develop. I want them to have lots of fun and be able to compete.”
“Honestly,” said Rockies coach Chris Ales, “being out there, playing baseball, being on the field, with all the boys together and nice weather, it’s everything we love about being out in Hollister.”

Ricky Boyer has been a Little League coach for seven years and said his team, the Rangers, is a “good competitive team.”
“Little League,” he said, “develops kids and teaches them more than just baseball.”

Angels coach Dylan Sandstom has been on the board of directors with the Hollister Little League for three years.
“I look forward to this every year,” he said. “I get to spend time with my son, and I like just being back out here with the kids. It comes and goes so quick!”
