Attending for the first time, Jason Huynh said his favorite dance move is the spin: “I like leading the girls.”
“I have never done this before,” Huynh said. “I got invited by my sister and but I thought I might as well do it once. Now I feel like I know what I’m doing. and then if I ever do it in the future, I’ll know a little bit more.”

Patrice Lyn came to the dance as part of a birthday celebration for a friend. She said she likes salsa and merengue, but one particular form of dance is close to her heart.
“I like dancehall music,” said Patrice Lyn. “It’s part of my culture. I have been dancing since I was a kid. I decided to come and represent tonight, so I’m glad that I came. Dancing is liberating, it’s freeing and, I mean, I dance in my sleep. It’s part of my soul.”

Instructor Michael Galindo said that the San Benito County Arts Council does a Latin dance event once a month.
“They bring us out here to help bring the community together,” he said, “and ultimately to have a good time. We’ve been doing it a little bit over six months now.”
Galindo said the classes, which run about an hour, are well attended.
We typically have anywhere from 30 to 60 people that come to the class,” Throughout the whole night, we sometimes see up to 100 people!”
