On January 25, 2025, at approximately 1:40 a.m., Hollister police officers responded to the 400 block of Meridian Street following a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a gunshot victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim received on-site treatment from Hollister Fire and AMR personnel and was then taken to a nearby trauma center.

The initial investigation revealed that the victim confronted several individuals who were suspected of breaking into his vehicle. The victim followed the suspects demanding the return of the items he believed they had taken. This led to a physical altercation between the victim and the unknown suspect(s), during which the victim was shot. The suspect(s) then fled the area. HPD officers and San Benito County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a search of the area for the suspects.

Through the execution of many search warrants, community outreach, and canvassing, Hollister Police Department officers and detectives methodically advanced the case.

On January 27, 2025 a male Hollister resident (22), turned himself in to the Hollister Police Department, admitting some involvement in the shooting. He has not identified the two people who might have been with him at the time of the incident.  Hollister police detectives arrested suspect and booked him into the San Benito County Jail on attempted murder charges.

Another arrest was made in the Oct. 23, 2023, shooting incident at the 1000 block of Monterey Street. The victim was identified as Jacob Arballo, a 45-year-old lifelong Hollister resident.  Mr. Arballo died at the scene.

Officers and detectives from the Hollister Police Department conducted a thorough investigation into this homicide, uncovering and collecting additional evidence.

The Investigations Bureau has worked tirelessly on this case since the homicide occurred. The Detective Bureau executed multiple search warrants and gathered concrete evidence, ultimately building probable cause for an arrest.

On February 6, 2025, the Detective Bureau arrested and booked a 17-year-old into the San Benito County Youth Services Center for the murder of Jacob Arballo.
