A 28-year-old man died Jan. 12 following a head-on collision around 5:47 p.m. on Frazier Lake Road north of Shore Road. He was a Hollister resident.
According to a California Highway Patrol news release, the driver and passenger of the other vehicle were transported to a nearby hospital with suspected serious injuries.
CHP said it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the cause of this crash.
Commander Adam Lobdell with the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office said there are indications a third vehicle conducted an unlawful pass and caused one of the other vehicles to serve into oncoming traffic. He said the vehicle that conducted the unlawful pass fled the scene.
He said law enforcement was in the process of identifying and notifying the next of kin.
The accident is the latest of a series of recent fatalities in San Benito County. In late January, a female CSU Monterey Bay student died following a single-vehicle rollover accident near San Juan Bautista. On Jan. 14, three Hollister teenagers died following a collision on Shore Road.
