Approximately 1,300 PG&E customers in Monterey and San Benito Counties
may be impacted by a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff on Friday and Saturday.

Those customers reside in Monterey (1,233 customers) and San Benito (72 customers) counties and have been notified. Again, the number of customers that may be impacted by tomorrow’s potential PSPS event has dropped from 6,500 to 1,300.

PG&E’s in-house meteorologist are monitoring a dangerous pulse of windy, dry and hot weather forecasted to enter the southern part of PG&E’s service area Friday morning. This weather event has prompted the National Weather Service for San Francisco Bay/Monterey to issue a Red Flag Warning. Proactively turning off the power for safety to reduce wildfire risk is a last resort option for PG&E. We’ll share how we’re supporting customers during this extraordinary heat wave.

In areas where this PSPS event might happen, PG&E will open three Community Resource Centers starting Friday, July 5, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Air Conditioning, drinking water, charging capabilities, snacks and other resources will be provided)

  • Soledad: Soledad Community Center, 560 Walker Drive, Soledad, 93960
  • King City:    Salinas Valley Fairgrounds, 625 Division St., King City, 93960
  • Lockwood: San Antonio Union School, 67550 Lockwood Jolon Road, Lockwood, 93932

It’s important to note that a Public Safety Power Shutoff is a last resort measure to reduce the risk of wildfires. After the threat of this severe weather system has passed and it is safe to proceed, PG&E will promptly inspect and patrol lines to re-establish power as efficiently as possible.
