On December 10, 2024, the Hollister Police Department received a report concerning an 83-year-old woman who had been admitted to the hospital in critical condition. Officer Morgan took the lead in this investigation.
Officers determinded the 83-year-old woman had been improperly cared for several weeks which resulted in the victim acquiring extensive injuries which required immediate medical attention. Medical personnel stabilized her condition to a degree of comfort but due to the severity of her injuries, she remains in very critical condition.
Hollister Police detectives carried out a search warrant at the residence of Samuel Gonzales on Comienzo Drive. Investigators found evidence the victim had lived in substandard conditions in her room. San Benito County Health and Human Services (Adult Protective Services) was notified of this ongoing investigation.
The victim’s caretaker, her grandson Samuel Gonzales (43), was taken into custody. He was booked at the San Benito County Jail for the following charges:
- 664/192 (b) PC- Attempted involuntary Manslaughter – Felony
- 368 (b)(1) PC- Elder or dependent Abuse – Felony
