While I can’t fathom what the opponents of Measure X are up to, the results of their continued shenanigans will have real world implications for the rest of us. To understand the severity of this situation, we need only imagine what would happen if the emergency room at Hazel Hawkins was suddenly not there – a reality that the opponents of Measure X conveniently sidestep during any real or substantive debate of the issues.
Here is what else they are not telling you if Measure X fails to pass:
● The closure of service lines including maternity care
● The JPA proposal falls well short of providing enough capital to secure the ongoing financial needs of Hazel Hawkins
● The need of a taxpayer bailout
● The loss of doctors, nurses and other key staff
● An increase in death rates from heart attacks, strokes and trauma cases
Pretending that the County will be able to step in and help guide Hazel Hawkins with a yet unnamed group of “hospital experts” and creating a JPA board made up of unnamed individuals not accountable to the community, seems an unnecessary roll of the dice. I for one do not want to trust the same people who can’t fix a pothole to be there when I need emergency attention. Let’s not play games with our healthcare. Vote yes on Measure X!
