For Hazel Hawkins Memorial, only one option, that allowed for in Measure X, truly provides for a healthy operation and expanded service lines today and into the future.
With the passage of Measure X, our San Benito Health Care Board will be allowed to enter into a lease agreement with Insight. According to a term sheet that they have already agreed to, that future looks very bright.
Along with agreeing to a long term lease that will allow the Board to have oversight of their operations, Insight has already agreed to paying the fair market value for the hospital and to spending $50 million for much needed capital expenditures – everything from new imaging equipment, to funds to help expand current services and grow existing and new service lines – like cancer care, cardiac services and more.
Besides the financial investment, which is so desperately needed for a hospital, Insight brings experience. Experience in recruiting physicians and building service lines. This is what Hazel Hawkins needs in order to become a more stable organization. San Benito County not only needs this, but our community members deserve to have this caliber of healthcare at our fingertips. We can all agree that expanding service lines is the path to the future of healthcare in San Benito County.
