Donald Wirz, the President of the San Benito County Farm Bureau said in a news release that local farmers will be parading through Hollister streets on Saturday, October 12 from 1-3 p.m. in a protest against Measure A which appears on the November ballot.

“Voters need to reject Measure A,” Wirz said. “It will do great harm to our local farmers and ranchers essentially taking control over their land. This is a huge violation of property rights. Measure A is sponsored by out-of-town groups who have no business being involved in local issues.

Local farmers will be parading a variety of farm equipment through Hollister to raise awareness of Measure A and urge voters to reject it and keep local control over the county’s future.

County Sheriff Eric Taylor has joined local farmers in urging rejection of Measure A.
“People need to get educated about Measure A,” Taylor said. “It will reduce county funding for public safety and road improvements by millions of dollars per year and that’s just a bad idea.”

“Measure A is very poorly written and full of loopholes,” said Wirz. “I don’t know if they made a mistake or did it intentionally, but Measure A has a massive loophole that allows a virtually unlimited amount of low-income housing on farmlands. Voters need to learn more about Measure A to learn about the lasting harm it would cause all of us.”
