San Juan Bautista City Library will present “Arts in the Park,” at Carl Martin Luck Memorial Park on Saturday, June 22, and spotlighting local artists in the San Juan Bautista community.

San Juan Bautista City Library is proud to bring back “Arts in the Park” to the Community of San Juan Bautista for a third year in a row. “Arts in the Park” will allow attendees to interact with our local artists as they share and demonstrate their work all while enjoying our summer sunshine.

This is a free community event; all ages are welcome. Bringing blankets and/or chairs for use on the lawn is encouraged. Pack your own picnic lunch or grab a bite to go from one of our local restaurants.

“This event is the steady continuation of the Library’s past, present, and future harkening back to the first peoples of this area with their centuries old traditions of oral history and storytelling amongst the Costanoan-Ohlone communities to the small gatherings shortly after the City’s incorporation in the late 1800s when the Library Auxiliary first formed and began its fundraising efforts for a reading room in the Masonic Lodge and moving forward to the mid-1970s when the Community rallied together following the bequest of Francesca Luck of the Luck property, where the Library is currently located, to build the first of two buildings to house a Library and Museum in honor of her father Carl Martin Luck. Now, here today, we are once again gathering support from our community to realize its dream of a second Community Use building and multipurpose outdoor space filled with trees and the open lawn that can be used for outdoor performances whether they are spoken word, musical in nature, dance, or whatever the future may hold. This year’s series of “Arts in the Park” is a catalyst to allow further space and opportunity for members of the community to help shape the way their public resources are used for them. We are here, always, to hear our community’s input and feedback as to what they would like to see more of and will do our best to incorporate all of their amazingly wonderful ideas,” says Rochelle Eagen, the library’s lead technician.

The current conceptual plan referenced by Eagen is based on input from the Community led Luck Park master planning sessions in 2020 and 2021. Over a series of hybrid meetings with the City Council, Planning Commission and Residents of San Juan Bautista, a conceptual master plan for the area was created. As an anchor presence in Luck Park the Library is situated as a hub for community space. The San Juan Bautista City Library’s mission is to provide access & guidance to a wide variety of information & materials of contemporary interest & permanent value for our community. This event’s goal is to establish a fixed outdoor location for an open amphitheater stage for community use, more space for public activities, and current available Library programs to have outdoor utilization.
