On Saturday, June 22, the streets of downtown Hollister will be lined with crowds and filled with the sounds of clacking hooves for the 2024 saddle horse show parade.

Beginning at 11 a.m., the parade will kick off the 90th anniversary of the San Benito County Rodeo and Horse Show, starting at Haydon Street and San Benito Street and making its  way north toward Fifth Street.

The parade will feature more than 50 community entries, including floats from groups including the Girl Scouts of San Benito County, marching bands such as Hollister High School’s Scarlet Regiment, horsemen, wagons, the 2024 Miss San Benito rodeo queen and herds of cattle and horses.

In light of San Benito County’s 150 year anniversary, representatives of the county will also be walking in the event.

Downtown Hollister Association chief executive officer Omar Rosa stated that this year’s parade will be the biggest yet.

“This year, we will have the most horses we’ve ever had in the parade, with 150 compared to last year’s 100, and of course, more equestrians to guide them,” he said.

To help prepare for the parade, 70 volunteers are tasked with setup and teardown, and guiding each float. Rosa added that he wanted to thank the volunteers for taking the time to help keep the parade fun and safe for all ages.

“We are super excited we are celebrating the 90th anniversary of the parade” Rosa said. “We are happy to carry on the tradition, put the parade together, and see everybody out there to see what the parade has to offer.
