National Night Out, an event about police and community partnerships, was held at the Veterans Memorial Building in Hollister on Aug. 6.
“This is a way we put something out in the community,” said Alexandra Oropeza, community services officer with the Hollister Police Department. “Families and friends can see our vehicles and have positive contact with the police to show them that they are approachable, here to help you, not give you tickets or harass you.”
There were around 40 booths representing local law enforcement agencies, municipal departments and vendors—and lots of foot traffic. “It gets bigger every year,” she said. Oropeza estimates about 2,000 people came.
“This is a great annual event,” said Kathina Szeto, owner of Bene Gifts. “It’s a really friendly way to meet and greet our first responders.”
