Fire in Hollister

TAG Adventure Park, a paintball and airsoft recreational facility located on San Benito Street in Hollister, was affected by fire off River Parkway on July 23. Following the blaze, owner Roland “Bullseye” Chick, said his spirits were high, and that he’s glad the facility is still open for business.

Hollister Fire Department was dispatched to the scene following reports of white smoke coming from near the riverbed. The scene quickly turned into a wildland fire with black smoke and large flames. It took a few hours to get the fire under control due to high winds and temperatures. Hollister fire deployed all four of its fire stations to the scene, including Engine 643 out of San Juan Bautista, and Water Tenders 52 & 53. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Hollister fire said almost five acres were completely burned, including some bunkers and forts on the paintball course, according to Chick. All of the equipment used for paintballing were untouched by the fire.

About half the property was burned. Chick said Calfire and Hollister fire were at the property until about 8:30 p.m. making sure the fire was completely extinguished.

Chick mentioned that community outreach was swift, and he has been answering phone calls nonstop. He is seeking donations of barrels, shipping containers, and pallets, so they can rebuild the paintball courses.

Chick stressed that his business is still here, and that he and his staff are thankful. “It’s a small moment for watershed, but overall they are going to come back stronger.”
