On February 12, 1874, San Benito County broke away from Monterey County, was officially established, and became its own. Which makes the county officially 150 years old this year.
With a century and a half under its belt, naturally, the county is full of rich history and stories. Of course, this is also the home to California Mission San Juan Bautista, which comes with its own history.
